The demand to the authorities to act in the disappearance of the young people
Morelia, Mich. – “We are calling out to those who might have information, so that they can be found. They were helping the community, offering a workshop. They are not criminally involved and only came for the benefit of the citizens and the state. We are hoping and expect to see these young men and woman returned,” said the leader of the Citizen’s Movement in Michoacan, Aníbal Guerra Calderón, a facilitator supporting the search to find the three young people who have been missing since last Saturday in Paracho, Mich. This is about Luis Enrique Castañeda Nava, 28 years old, Diego Maldonado, 26 and Ana Belem Sánchez, all of whom came to Paracho in order to give a training workshop.
The details around the abduction of these young people belonging to the Citizen’s Movement have still not been reported. Even the government secretary, Jesús Reyna García, admitted he does not know the facts. He reported that the town’s mayor was with one of the victims’ mothers this Thursday. Meanwhile, the government has maintained indifference regarding this case.
“The state government is not acting. We’re making a strong call for the state and local government to respond to the case of the missing youths, who are individuals of integrity, who came out of the goodness of their souls to give an advanced training course to the people in this federal district,” he exclaimed, while expressing that it is impossible for a municipality such as Paracho not to know who took them. The party leader said that by failing to ensure minimum safety conditions, tourism must be put to a halt, as it did at the Cantoya Balloon Festival on that Saturday. He also blamed the state government and the mayor for this situation, because they are state and municipal authorities, bound at all times to address security issues.
“We want the boys and girl returned alive, we want them to appear,” he said. He stressed that so far, nothing is known. There have been no ransom requests. He thinks the kidnapping had to be a mistake, that the wrong people were taken.
“Again, these are young people who were giving a training course that ended on Sunday. They were to return to the city, they were a part of the Citizen’s Movement, impunity cannot be tolerated,” he added.
The youths stayed the duration of the Cantoya Balloon Festival, and returned to their hotel. At two in the morning they were taken from their rooms. The identity of the kidnappers and their motive are unknown.
